When is the new Oculus Rift coming out?

This is the question everyone is asking. The new Oculus Rift is a follow-up to the Oculus Rift VR headset, also known as Oculus Rift 2. No hardware has yet been announced, and there is no official announcement as to its release either. Right now, gamers are still on the first VR headset generation, and it’s still unclear which update model will be followed.

It might be like the console model, with updates once every few years, or similar to the phone model with annual updates. Facebook’s standalone Oculus Go headset (Facebook owns Oculus) launched on May 1 this year. It works without a phone or PC, part of the recent wave of all-in-one VR headsets. However, not everyone agrees that Oculus Go and the new Rift are the same thing – their names are different at the very least.

Is it the same as Santa Cruz?

Some experts argue that the Rift has already come out in the form of Project Santa Cruz, which has found its way into the hands of third-party developers. Facebook announced that there would be some interesting updates related to the headset later in 2018, but such have not emerged at the time of writing.

Recently, HTC announced the launch of the HTC Vive Pro headset, an upgrade to the next Vive generation. With built-in headphones, improved resolution and comfort, this version promises an even better virtual reality experience than Vive. It’s putting pressure on Oculus to launch its upgraded headset as it has already become available to consumers.

How much will it cost?

The price of the new Oculus Rift is still unknown, much like everything else. However, informed sources report it will be only slightly more expensive than the first Oculus Rift, which comes to around $399. The standalone version of the Go is around $200.
